Since I first began
investigating the paranormal I've been intrigued by the unusual types of
phenomenon we seem to encounter during our investigations. Like most
paranormal investigators I have taken my fair share of orb pictures. I have
also photographed ectoplasm mist and I'm looking forward to the day that I
can capture my first vortex or apparition. These phenomenon have been
experienced by most investigators at one time or another. But we have also
encountered some unusual phenomenon that we've never seen before. So I've
decided to spend some time studying these phenomenon more closely in the
hopes that we can have a better understanding of them. -- Mark J.
It's
routine during our investigations to set-up both standard
lighting and infrared video cameras in the hopes of capturing
spiritual anomalies. So far in our efforts we have
catalogued numerous orbs in motion, ectoplasm mist forming,
and other unusual phenomenon. Here are some excellent
examples:
Orb In Motion - this is an interesting clip which shows an
orb moving slowly across the room. It was shot with a standard JVC Super
VHS-C camcorder using normal lighting. Notice how the orb seems to pulsate
with light, almost like a lighthouse airplane beacon. This strobe effect
may have something to do with the camera I was using and the standard
lighting, but I will continue to research it using both my standard and
infrared cameras for comparison.
Multiple Orbs - This is an excellent video clip showing
numerous orbs moving un multiple directions at once, therefore ruling out
dust or airborne particles which tend to move with the airflow in one
direction. And since there was no fans on at the time or windows open, the
air should have remained relatively still during the time we were
recording. The orbs themselves almost seem to be putting on a show for us.
Ectoplasm Mist - This was one of the first times I had ever seen
someone capture ectoplasm mist on video. Ectoplasm is hard enough to
capture using a still camera, let alone a camcorder. Bruce
Uhl recorded
this anomaly during an investigation using his infrared Sony DigiCam.
Another type of anomaly that we have captured
during our investigations is what we call a "Flying Sock". While not the
most scientific sounding of terms, a flying sock describes an unusual type
anomaly that is relatively large and appears to have mass, and is usually in
motion. My first encounter with such an anomaly was when I captured one on
video in my own home where I've been experiencing paranormal activity for
the past year.
Flying Sock - You
can see a bulbous, tadpole-shaped anomaly flying out from under the rocking
chair and go streaking past the camera to the left. If you single-frame the
clip you can see the anomaly moving on a direct course past the camera. And
while it appears solid at first, as it nears the edge of the frame it starts
to become transparent with the chair in the background visible through it.
Also notice how the cat lying on the floor seems to follow it as it moves
across the room. I recorded this anomaly with a JVC-Super VHS-C camcorder
using a built-in light. With the exception of a nightlight glowing in the
left corner of the room, there was no other light illuminating the room at
the time of recording. What also strikes me about this anomaly is that it
appears that the camera light is not illuminating it. Instead, it appears
to be backlit by the nightlight behind it.

To date we still are not sure how these anomalies are created. One theory
is that this phenomenon is made up of some form of electromagnetic energy.
And while it may be invisible to us, they may emanate a form of light energy
that is measurable and can be captured our equipment, which is much more
sensitive to other forms of light that our eyes can't see. We will continue
to research this phenomenon and bring you updates as often as possible.
